Poland and Estonia joined the boycott of the FIG Congress due to the admission of Russians

The Polish and Estonian Gymnastics Federations will not participate in the Congress of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) due to the presence of the Russian and Belarusian parties.

Previously, the representatives of Ukraine and Norway had announced the boycott of the FIG Congress.

Polish Federation general secretary Piotr Dec said attending the event is incompatible with the position of the country’s Ministry of Sports and Tourism.

Any other decision would be contrary to the values in which we deeply believe. It is also incompatible with the position of the Polish Ministry of Sports and Tourism. Although the decision was obvious, it was not taken lightly.

The importance of the annual meetings of the FIG Member Federations cannot be overstated. Our federation will do its best to participate in the preparatory work and share opinions on the issues that will be discussed in Istanbul, but we will do it from Warsaw,” Dec said as quoted by Inside the Games.

The FIG Congress, which was due to take place November 11-12, has been moved to Istanbul in Turkey from Norway as the Scandinavian country was unable to stage the event due to a ban from the local Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Culture to admit the Russian side.

In March, Russian athletes were suspended from competitions under the auspices of the FIG due to the situation in Ukraine.
