Down-the-line.com / Figure Skating. Former Russian figure skater Maria Butyrskaya has shared her opinion on the code of ethics drawn up by the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR). It contains rules of conduct for coaches and athletes. For example, skaters are advised not to give negative feedback and to answer hypothetical questions.

“Personally, when I make comments, I always try to convey some of my thoughts and in the process of dialogue with a journalist, I clearly explain everything. But then I read the article and do not recognize my words. A lot of sentences are cut from the dialogue, and then I feel like an idiot, I feel offended because after certain posts, they start presenting me with something I’m a pretty smart person and during a conversation I think about my words and say nothing.

Athletes are overwhelmed with emotions after competition, and sometimes because of this they can’t even construct sentences normally. If we are talking about hypothetical questions from journalists, then I agree that it is better not to answer them. Why assume something and predict what will happen? Time will put everything in its place and then we will discuss everything,” Butyrskaya quotes metatares.
