Paralympic Summer Games champion: “I won silver in the 5000m. In 10 minutes I won the 400m. It’s not worth repeating”

Tokyo Paralympic Games track and field champion Anton Kulyatin told how to run the two toughest distances in one day and win medals in both.

— How would you rate the performance at the Paralympic Games “We are together. Sport” in Sochi?

— I started with 1500 meters. Won, showed good seconds. Today I decided to combine two distances – the 5000 and 400 meter finals. Accordingly, silver and gold.

– And how do you feel after such a group?

– It is not worth repeating it. It still did pretty well.

– Is it true that they say that 400 meters is the most difficult distance in athletics?

– Depending on how fast you run. I run for endurance, not acceleration. Some start like 30 yards, or try to give four hundred square yards in a row. I’m starting at a different pace, but I’m running. Every 200 meters – 25.2, it turned out 50.41.

They ran without a leader. The vision allows it?

– Yes. The problem is congenital, hereditary, the father also saw badly. I wore glasses from the first year, at the age of 18, I was allowed to wear contact lenses, but my vision gradually deteriorated. And it keeps getting worse.

– Can’t you stop him?

– Untreated. Atrophy of the optic nerve, no surgery can fix it. I accept the disease for what it is. The left eye almost does not see, the right – minus 13-14. It does not interfere with sports to some extent.

Today at 7:00 p.m., Sochi will host the closing of the Paralympic Summer Games “We are together. Sport”.
