italian cyclist Vincenzo Nibali (Team Astana Qazaqstan) and Spaniard Alexander Valverde (Movistar) retired from cycling.
Their last World Tour race was the monumental “classic” Giro di Lombardia, won by Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE). Russian Alexander Vlasov (BORA‑hansgrohe) finished 18th.
Nibali, 37, is one of the few riders in cycling history to have won all three Grand Tours: the Tour de France (2014), the Giro d’Italia (2013 and 2016) and the Vuelta (2010) . In monumental races, he won twice in Lombardy and once in Milan-San Remo.
Valverde is 42 years old and has 133 professional victories to his name, including four victories at the “monument” Liège-Bastogne-Liège, victory in the general classification of the Vuelta (2009) and the world title in 2018. In his last race of his career , he finished 6th.
