British Athletics World Champion Chijindu Uja suspended 22 months for anti-doping rule violation, according to to place Independent Athletics Anti-Aggression Authority (IAU).
In February, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) deprived Great Britain of the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the 4x100m relay. The 28-year-old runner tested positive during the Games in August 2021 and tested positive for ostarine and S-23, substances banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The athlete’s disqualification went into effect on August 6, 2021 and will last until June 5, 2023.
The IAU announcement marks another sad chapter for sport in the UK. Every governing body, athlete, coach and member of staff should take this case as a warning that doping is a threat to British sport at the highest level. This case highlights the need for all sports to redouble their commitment to their anti-doping responsibilities, said Jane Rumble, chief executive of the UK Anti-Doping Agency (UKAD).
