The first medal for Ukraine at the tournament
Ukrainian judoka Elizabeth Litvinenko won a bronze medal at the World Judo Championship, which takes place in Tashkent.
In the bronze final, the 18-year-old Ukrainian, who competes in the weight category up to 78 kilograms, confidently defeated the 2020 Olympic champion 32-year-old Japanese Sori Hamada in 23 seconds.
Litvinenko was not seeded at the World Championships, defeating former world championship bronze medalist Lauriana Cooke in the draw. In the semi-finals, Elizabeth lost to the representative of China Ma Zhenzhao, missing the reception in the last seconds.
For Ukraine, this medal was the first in the world championship. Earlier, Ukrainian judoka Daria Beloded lost in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Championship.
The World Judo Championship in Tashkent takes place from 6 to 13 October.
