Haney: I’m not going to keep Lomachenko waiting, the biggest fight has to happen

The American is primarily focused on the rematch with Kambosos

Undisputed World Lightweight Champion Devin Haney said that he was not going to deliberately delay the fight with the Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko.

“No, it’s not in my mind at all. I don’t care if I keep him waiting or not. Right now my focus is on George Kambosos and then if everything makes sense and I can get back to weight, we can negotiate with Lomachenko.”

“I don’t think like, ‘He made me wait, so I’ll make him wait.’ I want the biggest fight to happen. I care about legacy and I make sure everything makes sense.”

Haney will fight a rematch with Kambosos on the night of October 16 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

Recall that in the duel for the title of absolute world champion Haney defeated Kambosos by unanimous decision of the judges – 116:112, 116:112 and 118:110. After that, George activated the option of a rematch with the American.

Lomachenko had his last fight in December last year, defeating Richard Commey by unanimous decision. Subsequently, Vasily could fight with Kambosos, but refused it against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Vasily Lomachenko will return to the ring on October 29 at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden in New York. The opponent of the Ukrainian will be Jamaine Ortiz.
