Russian figure skating coach Sergei Dobroskokov said the showdown between sporting pairs from Moscow and St. Petersburg looks like a seesaw, as the favorites are constantly changing.
– When you started working as a coach in St. Petersburg, in pair skating, there was a constant unspoken confrontation between skaters from St. Petersburg and Moscow. Does such a confrontation exist now?
– In principle, yes, but, you know, it’s like on a swing: Stanislav Zhuk was in Moscow – pair skating turned out to be concentrated in his hands for some time. Then Moskvina appeared in St. Petersburg – and the vector changed. Then Moskvina temporarily faded into the shadows, and the Moscow school of Nina Moser came to the fore. Now Moskvina dominates again. If a super talented couple appears in Moscow, the balance will change again. It largely does not depend on the coach, but on the athletes,” Dobroskokov told RT.
At the Beijing Olympics, silver in pair skating was won by Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov, who are engaged under the leadership of Eteri Tutberidze. The bronze was received by students of St. Petersburg coach Tamara Moskvina Anastasia Mishina and Alexander Gallyamov.
