Group choreographer Eteri Tutberidze Aleksey Zheleznyakov criticized Honored USSR figure skating coach Valentin Nikolaev, who called Tutberidze a manager.
Nikolaev has previously said that Tutberidze is “a manager, not a coach of the highest class”.
– Eteri is a great coach. More precisely: both a great manager and a great coach. Because she managed to gather the best team around her. Try it. How many coaches do the big teams have? Unique cases. She did it. Moreover, she herself understands both the techniques, the glide and the staging programs in her power, and she comes to my room with an understanding of the matter – she understands the choreography, the dance styles. She is always learning, never stopping.
I just don’t have enough words! People who have never seen how Tutberidze works have no right to open their mouths about it. It’s just slander. People like to chat, dance on other people’s bones – just to get fame. It is base and unworthy. Especially when it comes to coaches from the times of the USSR – they have such an education. Well, you can’t! The limits of professional ethics must be respected, you must be correct vis-à-vis your colleagues. I find it a shame to allow myself such a thing, ”Zheleznyakov said in a conversation with Metaratings.ru.
Among Tutberidze’s students are Olympic champions Yulia Lipnitskaya, Alina Zagitova, 2018 Olympic silver medalist Anna Shcherbakova, two-time world champion Evgenia Medvedeva. In 2020, Tutberidze received the International Skating Union (ISU) award in the “Best Coach” nomination.
