American figure skater Maria Bell announced that she was ending her career.
“My heart is filled with emotion, I’m so grateful for the ups and downs, the struggles and the successes. This journey has been tough and I haven’t always loved it, but I’ve always loved it. All this experience made me who I am, a person ready to end my competitive career and embark on the next part of my life with the knowledge that I could only acquire by sliding on cold ice every day.
My dreams have come true! Through perseverance and determination, I have learned that there are no limits. I always tried to be true to myself and not make excuses when things didn’t go my way and be grateful when they did. I hope others can find inspiration in my career. All good things must come to an end, and I’m so lucky that my love of figure skating ends at the highest level. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who supported me, you made my journey so much smoother.
Goodbye on the ice, but now only at the show,” the 26-year-old figure skater wrote on the social network.
Bell has previously said the absence of Russian skaters in competition opens up opportunities for other athletes.
Bell is the American Champion (2022), winner of the Grand Prix Skate América (2020), winner of the Nebelhorn Trophy Challenger Tournament (2019), winner of the World Tag Team Championship with Team USA (2019).
At the 2022 Olympics, the American came 10th in the singles competition.
