Sergey Ustyugov: “It won’t be a problem for me to race without Swedes and Norwegians”

Olympic cross-country skiing champion Sergei Ustyugov admitted that he did not see a possible boycott of his Swedish and Norwegian rivals as a problem.

– How do you react to comments from some Swedes and Norwegians threatening to boycott competitions if Russians are allowed?

– They raced without us in the Pyeongchang Olympics and weren’t too worried about it. So for me it won’t be a problem to run without them. If they want to boycott, that just makes it easier for us. As for international starts, it would be cool to run them. With all countries. It’s always a different type of competition. At the same time, it will be difficult for me personally if we are allowed to go to the World Cup at the moment.

Why not?

– Because you must already show your teeth on the roll-in, otherwise you will not enter the team. So you have to force. Well, or get ready for separate starts.

– Do you want to enter the season serenely?

Yes, I have everything according to plan. Roll-in will be in Khanty-Mansiysk – on October 20 he should call for a training camp. Departures will start there. If I’m not mistaken, the first is November 8,” Sport24 Ustyugov quotes.

The 30-year-old skier is Olympic relay champion in 2022, double world champion in 2017 and winner of the Tour de Ski in 2016.
