“I can’t say that some kind of disaster is happening in ice dancing” – Pavel Drozd

Russian figure skater and coach Pavel Drozd in an interview with , he assessed the situation with ice dancing, and also noted the motivation of their relationship with Elizaveta Shanaeva.

In the spring, it became known that bronze medalist of the World Junior Ice Dance Championship Elizaveta Shanaeva joined the group of Alexander Zhulin, and Pavel Drozd became her new partner.

Drozd is a two-time winner of the World Junior Championship, Russian junior champion and four-time winner of the country’s Cup final.

– There have been many changes in ice dancing this season: the key duos Sinitsina / Katsalapov and Stepanova / Bukin went on hiatus, Skoptsova / Aleshin ended their careers, Morozov / Bagin broke up. A real disaster for the public, don’t you think?

– In ice dancing, after each Olympic cycle, there is a rotation. There is a concept of queuing in the dances that was not invented by me, which partly affects the composition of the team. Some athletes go to the Olympics, achieve their goals and decide to end their careers, new talents come in their place. I can’t say that some kind of disaster is happening in dance now.

Lisa and I are very driven to prove, above all, to ourselves, what we are worth as a couple. We have a lot of ambition and work to do. We work and don’t look around.

— What will the best dancing couples look like this season?

– This question must be answered at least in one season. There have been too many changes, there have been too many couples. Current forecasts will not be constructive. Any analysis requires processing equipment, but so far we do not have it.

Will Sinitsina and Katsalapov return? Do they have the motivation to pursue their career?

I don’t think I have the right to discuss this subject. They will make the decision. The guys recently had a wedding, with which I congratulate them.
