Athletistic/ Others. Olympic swimming champion Yevgeny Rylov posted an article on one of the social networks dedicated to the Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, in which he explained why he did not want to celebrate this day.
“I want to congratulate everyone on this great holiday – Victory Day! I am NOT ashamed to be Russian, I proudly take out my Burgundian passport when I travel, I am happy to be a citizen of a great country! And I support my president, who loves my country and does not allow the clouds to thicken on our borders. I don’t want to CELEBRATE. Our guys are dying now. But REMEMBER – we we have to,” wrote Rylov among others.
For supporting state policy, Yevgeny Rylov was suspended for 9 months by the International Swimming Federation (FINA) from participating in all international competitions. Rylov can participate in domestic competitions and from 2023 he can return to the international stage.
