Olympic short track champion Semyon Elistratov said he did not understand the criteria for the selection of the best athlete of the 2022 Games by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).
ANOC has named South Korean short tracker Hwang Dae Hong as the best athlete of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. He won the 1500m and silver in the relay.
“Congratulations to Hwang Dae Hong. I ran the 1500m with him, he deserved that gold medal. I have only one question, and this question, of course, is not for him, but for ANOC – what is the criteria for choosing the best athlete of the Olympic Games? If on a sporting basis, it is Alexander Bolshunov who deserves to earn more. It turns out that it’s not so important to win more prizes in different disciplines? So what is important? Bolshunov at the Beijing Games won three gold medals, as well as silver and bronze.
