The Rotan team will play in a group with one of the hosts of the youth Euro 2023
Team head coach Romania U-21 Emil Sendoy gave a description of the youth team of Ukraine. His players will face Ruslan Rotan’s team in Group B at European Championship 2023.
“The Blue-Yellows are returning to the Youth Euro finals after more than a decade away. They have two appearances at this stage under their belts, of which the participation in 2006 was outstanding. The Ukrainian team reached the final, where they lost to the Netherlands.”
“Ukrainians rely on the young talents of Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv. It was these players who took second place in the group with France, Serbia, Faroe Islands, North Macedonia and Armenia. Subsequently, in the playoffs, our neighbors eliminated Slovakia.”
The Euro 2023 draw brought Ukraine into quartet B with Romania, Croatia and Spain. The two best teams from each quartet will advance to the playoffs of the European Youth Championship.
Spanish youth head coach Luis de la Fuente believes that strong teams have gathered in Group B. And the Croatian mentor Igor Bischan said that his wards are no weaker than Ukraine and Romania.
Recall that the final part of Euro 2023 U-21 will be held in Georgia and Romania from June 21 to July 8 next year. The top three teams of the youth Euro 2023 (except France and England) will receive tickets to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Ukraine will play at the European Championship for the third time in its history. In 2011, the blue-and-yellows, led by Pavel Yakovenko, finished last in the group. At the 2006 European Championship, under the leadership of Alexei Mikhailichenko, the youth team reached the final, where they lost to the Netherlands (0:3).
