Mexico has officially applied and has already set up a committee to promote it. Previously, Mexicans had already hosted the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, and in 1970 and 1986 the country hosted the World Cups. In 2026, Mexico, along with Canada and the United States, will host another World Football Forum.
“We see ourselves as a prosperous and ambitious country. We are the only country to have hosted three world championships and our economy is one of the best,” Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said.
