female head coach Russian team volleyball Zoran Terzic called stupidity and absurdity the decision not to allow Russian national teams to participate in the qualification for the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Earlier it became known that the Russian men’s and women’s teams will not participate in the qualifying tournament for the 2024 Games due to the suspension of international competitions. Relevant information appeared on the website of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
– Olympic qualification is only a year away. Hope the situation normalizes. Our team’s chances of participation remain. I’m out of politics, I’m a coach. I only think about sport and don’t get involved in politics. But this is just stupidity and nonsense – not to let athletes compete in the Olympics and international competitions. They always say that sport must unite. But in reality, everything is upside down, politics decides a lot.
We really hope that everything will be over soon and that the IOC will let us play. We really want to go to the Olympic Games, we are going to prepare. World sport is unimaginable without Russia, Terzic told .
In February, the IOC recommended not allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete due to the situation in Ukraine. The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) followed the IOC’s recommendations in March.
The Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
