Figure skater Lev Lazarev, after winning the second stage of the Russian Junior Grand Prix in Sochi, spoke about his performance and how Yevgeny Plushenko inspired him to take up this particular sport.
– What can you say about your performance?
— Generally satisfied. Everything could have been better in the second half.
– Why did the quadruple lutz fail in the second part of the program?
“I started wondering if it would work or not. Nothing worked in the end.
– Lutz in the second half, and even in the cascade, it’s a big risk. How did you decide?
– I think it’s easier for me to do lutz from quads, so we decided to insert it in the second half.
– They say you have all the quadruple jumps.
— Yes, I do all the quads. I hope that soon I can collect everything in the program.
— Ilya Malinin does a quadruple axel. Thinking of trying this item? Or maybe a quintuple jump?
— Yes, I would like to try the quintuple and the quadruple Axel.
“Five lutz?”
– Yes.
Why did you decide to start figure skating?
– In 2014, I watched the Olympics and saw Evgeni Plushenko. He made a big impression on me. I asked my parents to take me to the section. We went to public skating, I skated with plastic skates, I fell a lot of times, but I really liked it.
– It turns out that Yevgeny Viktorovich is your idol, the person who inspired you?
– Rather yes than no. I really liked the way he rode back then.
– You participated in a children’s ice show. Where is the most exciting – there or at the competitions?
– Of course, it is more exciting during competitions – here are both judges and spectators. And on the show, it was more important to show the program than to jump and everything.
– It turns out that they enjoyed the show more?
– Yes.
– What are your hobbies? You were paragliding.
– It was on vacation. It occurred to me, I decided to give it a try. I really like that. And so, I really like to learn foreign languages. I study English and German.
— Would you be able to give an interview in English to foreign journalists?
“In English, perhaps. In German, certainly not.
German is an interesting choice. Why are you studying it?
Because it’s my second language at school.
– Juniors will have cash prizes for the Grand Prix. Do you have a dream that you would like to dedicate?
No, there is no dream yet. To be honest, I only recently discovered it.
– Sergey Davydov – a strict coach?
“He’s a fair coach. When things are going well, of course, he will praise, and when things are going badly, he will try to rejoice. I can’t say that he is a very strict coach.
– Which of the modern figure skaters do you like?
– I like the way it rides Ilya Malinin .
What are you working on the most?
“I try to work on everything: quadruple jumps, programs, pirouettes,” Lazarev said.
In the final standings after the results of the Sochi stage, Lazarev scored 257.50 points.
