“The rittberger didn’t work. I came here and on the second day I forgot how to jump it” – figure skater Gumennik

Figure skater Pierre Gumennik commented on the performance at the second stage of the Russian Grand Prix in figure skating in Sochi, noting errors in the jumping elements.

Gumennik scored 236.63 points and took third place, Mark Kondratyuk won (279.00).

– Yes, the legs burn after the quadruples. Rittberger did not work. I came here and on the second day I forgot how to skip it. Sometimes it happens to me. I feel like I’m doing the same thing, but the result is different. It’s hard to say why. Maybe something is changing in your head: it seems like you are doing everything right, but something is going differently. Maybe because of the properties of the ice, or my shape. There can be many reasons. The only way to solve this problem is selection. And in morning training, I kind of picked him up, he started to stabilize. And in the warm-up he seemed to be doing well, but at the box office he made a mistake.

He also fell off the triple axel, but he just wasn’t up to it. After all, I recently had coronavirus. After him, he was not trained quickly, because after an illness it is dangerous to train powerfully. I haven’t trained my respiratory system enough.

Therefore, it was removed from the Panin memorial then, due to illness.

I barely combine studies and training. I try to cover two things with great quality, to be on time everywhere. Quite difficult. We were not immediately loaded to the institute, but now quite serious training. Sometimes it’s difficult, you have to sit on tasks for a long time, but so far everything is working. Can you rest? I must. If you don’t rest at all, the brain will get tired and the legs will stop jumping. Sometimes I don’t want to, I don’t even want to rest, but I force myself on purpose.

And Tamara Nikolaevna Moskvina and Veronika Anatolyevna Daineko said before this week to go to school less to prepare better. Pay more attention to training.

I’m not afraid to jump a lot of quads. Sometimes it might be easier to make a program if you think rationally, but it gets boring. I can imagine if I go into the short program not with Lutz and Rittberger, but with Lutz and Salchow. I understand that then the motivation will drop. It won’t be interesting,” Gumennik told reporters.
