Figure skater Sofia Samodelkina said that she did not feel panicky fear due to the fact that she could grow a lot.
– In September, during open rentals in Moscow, you said that you are trying to get used to the new body as quickly as possible. But the most active growth began in 2019.
– True, ten centimeters then increased. It’s just that when I was younger, everything was a lot easier. And it certainly never happened that I grew up and lost all the jumps. But this year it turned out to be something completely different. The same triple axel usually collapsed.
I watched videos from last year, tried to remember some previous sensations in order to return the jump, but nothing worked. The axel started jumping more or less stable only two weeks before the start of the Grand Prix, and in terms of technique it was not at all the same as before. I even had to go into another arc to pick up speed.
– In Russian women’s skating, there has been talk for many years that the main happiness of a figure skater is to be born in time in order to have time to go through all the most important departures before puberty. In this regard, it seems to me that girls should just experience panic fear of any changes in the body.
– I didn’t have that. Even when I left the previous coach, I didn’t think about it, even though the growth process had already started. After all, when I went to Svetlana Sokolovskaya, I did not skate at all for a long time, treated my ankle. At one time, the doctors categorically forbade any exercise, I just sat at home and was much more worried about the possible consequences of the injury than about some kind of restructuring of the body. Moreover, everything is quite safe with me in the female line: there are no parents too high for me to go to. Everyone says that I look more like a mother, even though I have already exceeded her by a centimeter – the other day they just measured and laughed about it, ”said the skater in an interview with RT.
At the second stage of the Russian Grand Prix, held in Sochi, 15-year-old Samodelkina became second, ahead of Alexandra Trusova and losing only to Adelia Petrosyan.
