Oleg Vernyaev called for the lifetime disqualification of Russian and Belarusian athletes who support the war in Ukraine. The athlete made such an appeal within the framework of the Sports Front project.
The famous Ukrainian gymnast recalled that she was unable to return to her native Donetsk for nine years because of the war unleashed by the Kremlin regime.
“I last saw my native Donetsk in 2012. And soon the war will take away my ability to go home for almost 9 years.
At the beginning of a full-scale invasion, training fades into the background. From the first days I started volunteering, like some of my colleagues, Ukrainian gymnasts. About three thousand athletes and coaches are still defending the Freedom of our country. More than a hundred of them will never return home.
All Russian and Belarusian athletes who support a mass invasion and the Kremlin’s rhetoric should be banned for life.
“Faster, higher, stronger – together” is the new slogan of the International Olympic Committee. But the Russians and Belarusians did not follow it. Obviously, we are not together,” said Vernyaev.
Recall that Oleg Vernyaev previously urged to encourage Russian-speaking Ukrainians to switch to the Ukrainian language.
