Three-time Olympic synchronized swimming champion Olga Brusnikina She said that many parents do not see sport as part of the educational process, even though it is necessary and that sport should contribute to the education of morality, not just patriotism.
Brusnikina took part in the final forum “Community” within the framework of public hearings on the theme “The role of sport in patriotic and moral education and strengthening national unity”.
– There is no queuing to come to the sports section of synchronized swimming. Apparently, our society at this point believes that sport is only necessary for health. Young parents do not see physical education as part of the educational process. But at the same time, parents need the educational process from the coach,” Brusnikina said at the forum. – Sport is hard work, even at the initial stage you need to overcome yourself. Children begin to break down – “something is difficult for me, I do not want.” Fermentation begins, including in the family. And it is clearly seen that in addition to family leadership, some kind of mentor is needed – they are asked to talk with the child, “because you are an authority for her, you are a law for her.” Through sport, through a mentor, you have to cultivate a patriotic spirit, and not just patriotic. Just the morals, what’s right and wrong, how to act, how not to act
– At the height of my career, the USSR collapsed, not everyone was up to sporting events and organizations. We trained on our own enthusiasm, there were no big salaries, grandiose gifts and attention
The world changes. And it would be wrong to return completely to this system, to put pressure only on patriotism. We are now in market conditions, it is important to have a good product to broadcast on television for example. It is one thing to educate a patriot-athlete, and on the other hand to create the image of a hero-athlete.
We are engaged in this work, education, we teach our athletes to fight for themselves, for their subject and for their homeland, – said Brusnikina.
