Former Russian national volleyball team head coach Sammelvuo coached Canada’s team

Former head coach Russia volleyball Tuomas Sammelvuo held a similar position in the team Canada according to the Canadian Volleyball Federation website.

“I have watched the development of the Canadian team over the years, both as a player and now as a coach. I really respect the work coaches and athletes have done to date. I look forward to taking on this challenge to bring my experience to the team and collaborate with the development system coaches to be successful in the future,” said Sammelvuo.

In February, the 46-year-old Finnish specialist left the post of head coach of Zenit Saint Petersburg. In May, All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF) President Stanislav Shevchenko announced that the organization’s Presidium had decided not to renew the contract with Sammelvuo.

Under Sammelvuo’s leadership, the Russian team won the Nations League and took second place at the Tokyo Olympics, losing to the French team in the final.
