Evgeni Plushenko: “Sometimes athletes have to be reprimanded, but I don’t beat my skaters or insult them”

Double Olympic champion and trainer Yevgeny Plushenko talked about communicating with skaters at his academy, saying he never beat or insulted athletes.

– You said so many good words about Sofya Titova. Are there times when you scold her?

– Sure. I scold all my athletes. You have to push somewhere, shout somewhere. But I don’t beat or insult anyone,” Plushenko told reporters.

– No one is offended by such an approach?

At least I don’t know. But I like them more, I try to work smoothly. I have an example – Alexei Nikolaevich Mishin. He never even raised his voice, he always worked calmly. Everything was delicate and clever. And I adhere to the same system in which I worked for more than 20 years with Alexei Nikolayevich. But you know, for some it works, for others it doesn’t. Many come, now there are also such requests. And I’m not even sure, to take children – not to take. Now we don’t take everyone right away, we start to choose. Because I think I need it at all or I don’t need it. It is to change the psyche, the technique. Wasting your time. There are athletes, we have to work with them.
