The Kiev mentor believes that the outcome of the match was decided by the mistakes of his wards
Main coach Dynamo Mircea Lucescu praised his wards after the duel with Fenerbahce in the last round of the group round Europa League. But he noted the mistakes that led to the defeat.
“We made two mistakes that allowed Fenerbahce to win this game. In two matches with the Turks, we conceded twice after corners, once after a throw-in, and once again after a defensive mistake. However, Fenerbahce played well today, they are a very good team with strong players. They were very motivated, we played for our honor. Our players showed character. This is a positive thing that I saw in the match today.”
“We started this season very well, passing Fenerbahce and Sturm in the Champions League qualification. It was already difficult to resist Benfica, because we started moving between Ukraine and Poland twice a week. It had a big impact because we didn’t have a permanent place to train and we didn’t have our own stadium. When we started playing simultaneously in the Ukrainian Championship and the Europa League, it became impossible to control the situation.
Now we will return to Ukraine and start playing in the championship as normal, playing home matches in Kyiv. Therefore, there will be no problems with constant moving. It’s a pity that we finished last in the Europa League group. In my opinion, we do not deserve such a result. In other circumstances, we could have achieved a more successful result.”
Dynamo lost to Fenerbahce (0:2), conceding two goals in the first half. The meeting was completed by the people of Kiev with ten men, in the 68th minute center back Ilya Zabarny was sent off.
Mircea Lucescu’s team finished playing in European competitions with one point in the asset for six matches played in group B and will not represent Ukraine in the European arena in the spring.
