The Congress of the International Union of Modern Pentathlon (UIPM) voted by majority to include in this sport the discipline of “overcoming obstacle course” instead of horse riding. website organizations.

Of the 83 voting members who voted in favor of adding the new discipline to the UIPM statutes, 69 (83.3%) voted yes, 11 voted against and three abstained.

The new modern pentathlon will be proposed to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for inclusion in the program of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The UIPM Congress also voted to modify the competition regulations so that the new discipline can be introduced at the Junior (U22), U19 and U17 World Championships, as well as at the Continental Championships from 2023.

Congress also voted to introduce new term limits for UIPM officers. A maximum term of 12 years is set for members of the Executive Board and the term of the President of the UIPM is also limited to 12 years. The changes come into effect on January 1, 2025.
