Athletes from the aggressor country cannot compete in international competitions for at least one year.

The International Paralympic Committee suspended Russia’s membership. This happened at a meeting of the organization’s extraordinary general assembly in Berlin.

64 congress delegates voted for the corresponding decision, 39 voted against it. Another 16 representatives abstained.

According to the voting participants, the Russian Federation cannot fulfill its obligations in accordance with the charter of the International Paralympic Committee.

At the same time, a small loophole was left in the decision for the aggressor country. Russia can appeal the decision, but only the general meeting of the committee can remove the suspension of membership, and not earlier than the end of 2023. Thus, Russian athletes are left without international starts for at least a year.

Recall, earlier it became known that the IBU extended the disqualification of Russian and Belarusian biathletes.
