The European Fencing Confederation sees no reason to lift the ban on the aggressor country.

The European Fencing Confederation is preparing to extend the suspension of Russian athletes from international competitions. It was reported to the Ukrainian federation.

“The European Fencing Confederation supports the position of the Ukrainian Fencing Federation regarding the non-admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes to international competitions.

In his letter to the presidents of the European fencing federations – FIE Congress delegates, the newly elected EFC President Giorgio Scarso emphasized that Russian and Belarusian athletes have been suspended from international competitions due to the actions of the state of Russia supported by Belarus. Since then, the situation has not improved, and has worsened. So, if the basic facts have not changed, why lift the ban?

In his speech, Giorgio Scarso recalled that the International Olympic Committee did not abandon its recommendation not to allow Russian and Belarusian fencers to compete. This recommendation is still relevant today. The EFC Executive Committee recommends that prominent delegates not vote against the recommendations of the IOC, regardless of any political or other points of view,” said the Ukrainian Fencing Federation.

It can be recalled that earlier the International Paralympic Committee suspended Russia’s membership in the organization.
