Down-the-line.com / Figure Skating. World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Director General Olivier Niggli said the organization is currently awaiting RUSADA’s decision in the case of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva.

After the team tournament at the Beijing Olympics, it became known that Valieva’s doping test on December 25, 2021 was positive. The Court of Arbitration for Sport, despite numerous appeals, allowed the Russian to participate in the individual tournament of the Games. The presentation of the team tournament medals by the IOC has been postponed until the end of the investigation.

“I cannot comment on the ongoing matter. It is under investigation by RUSADA, we are awaiting a decision on whether it is within code and whether there is a need to appeal. This is on our radar we are waiting for information from Russia.

Why did they ask the CAS to temporarily suspend Valieva from participating in the Olympics? Minor athletes have a special status, but this status is not a reason under the Code not to be provisionally suspended. That’s why we filed an appeal with the CAS, because we believe that all athletes should be on an equal footing,” Niggli said quoting RIA Novosti.
