Ambassador of the federal project “Sport is the norm of life”, Russian skier, Olympic champion Alexander Legkov organized a warm-up for children with intellectual disabilities.
The event took place in Kazan on November 21. 30 children – members of the “Sun in the House” community, students of Kazan School No. 76 for children with disabilities – gathered in the sports hall of the State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Volga tourism. Alexander Legkov showed them the elements of warming up for Russian skiers, as well as basic exercises to improve health. Volunteers who were studying at the university helped to do the exercises. After the gymnastics, the participants took photos for memory.
“These guys need sport, they need communication. Their world must be respected. Sport is always important and useful – after a warm-up your mood improves, your muscles and head work better. We have to be together with the guys and show that we love each other a lot, and that’s the only way to overcome everything.
Sport is indeed the norm. The project aims to make this understood to as many people as possible. And it’s great that I’m his ambassador. After all, if a person plays sports, he will be able to achieve success in other areas of life, Legkov said.
The event was commented by the Minister of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan Vladimir Leonov.
– Alexander, despite his status, is a very modest and sincere person. He is kind to people with disabilities, participates in many of our promotions and always helps out when possible. It is very important to show by example that sport is the norm of life.
There are a lot of people with disabilities. And it is wrong that they are needed only by their relatives. Through tools like Special Olympics, we want to change that. For people with disabilities, it is important to integrate sporting activity into their lives, the minister stressed.
In Kazan, Legkov will also participate in the Friendship Games, intended to replace international competitions from which Russian athletes have been suspended.
