Olympic champion in gymnastics Oleg Vernyaev announced the creation independent federation of artistic gymnastics in Ukraine. According to Vernyaev, this will help restore the level of athletes in the country.
“We have now created an independent federation of artistic gymnastics in Ukraine, which I head. Nobody knows about it yet. Oh, there will be calls tomorrow.
Napoleonic plans. We will try to develop. We need to look for patrons, those who help. I can’t do it myself. But there is support from Kyiv, support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports. I hope that now there will be more support from the NOC, because we need it.”
“We will develop, open sections and schools of artistic gymnastics. It would be ideal to find a place, fully equip it with modern equipment and open a full gymnastics hall for the guys.”
“If we do this, it will be very cool, because now there is a very big failure in gymnastics, and in sports too. A lot of young athletes have left the country and now we don’t have those who will push [нынешних спортсменов]. We must do all this and develop. This is all very important and we will move in this direction.”
“Yes, the war is on, but you need to live, you need to do something. The war will end and we must immediately restore something. We need to think about it and develop everything in advance.”
Vernyaev won the gold of the 2016 Games in the uneven bars and became the silver medalist of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in the all-around. Last summer, the gymnast was disqualified for four years due to meldonium found in the body.
