European Championship silver medalist Yuri Larionov in an interview with , he spoke about the future of figure skating in Russia in the conditions of not admitting domestic athletes to international competitions, suggesting that foreigners do not have enough competition with Russians at the main starts .
Russian skaters have been suspended from competitions under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) amid the situation in Ukraine until further notice.
– How do you see the development and prospects of figure skating in Russia in the context of the suspension of international competitions?
– In our time, we generally do not know what will happen in the world tomorrow. What about sports?
You know, for so many years we skated with foreign couples, spent our free time at tournaments and lived close together as a family. We are still in touch, albeit from a distance. I don’t believe that due to political issues, foreign skaters now stigmatize all Russian colleagues. I even think that they lack Russians in all competitions.
Now, of course, a difficult atmosphere for our athletes. It’s good that they don’t give up, keep working and set new goals. Hope this ends soon. After all, even wars were stopped during the Olympics. Sport should be out of politics, – said Larionov “”.
Yuri Larionov, together with Vera Bazarova, also became the silver medalist of the Grand Prix Final and the champion of Russia in 2012. In 2015, due to injuries, the athlete was forced to end his career .
