Kolesnikov withdrew from the Czech Republic final in the 50m freestyle in favor of a start in the 50m backstroke

Double Olympic medalist Kliment Kolesnikov withdrew from the Russian 50m freestyle final in favor of the 50m backstroke final.

The day before the competition, Kolesnikov at a distance of 50 meters backstroke twice updated the best result of the season in the world, set a Russian record and stopped 0.09 seconds from the world record.

– The decision was made due to an inconvenient schedule – only 15-20 minutes of recovery after 50 meters of crawl at 50 microns on the back, – Kolesnikov’s coach Dmitry Lazarev told .

Earlier, before the start of the Russian championship, Kolesnikov admitted that he could choose between these distances. “There in the evening, according to the program, there is 50 m backstroke and 50 m crawl, we will watch and decide,” he said.

The Russian Short Course Swimming Championship is held in Kazan as part of the second stage of the Friendship Games.
