The All-Russian Swimming Federation (VFPI) has signed an agreement with the We Act as One charity fund, founded by a former Formula 1 driver Nikita Mazepin .
The signing ceremony took place in Kazan, where the Russian short course swimming championship is held. It takes place as part of the second stage of the Friendship Games.
– We feel in our hearts that we are one team, despite different sports. We started the cooperation some time ago, I’m sure it will continue and it will help our athletes to feel good. This is an opportunity for athletes to reunite, for those who suffered from unfair decisions, suspensions from competitions, – said WSF President Vladimir Salnikov at the ceremony.
I created a fund to support all athletes who find themselves in a difficult life situation. Sport should be a safe place to compete, whatever country you represent and whatever the upheaval. Most athletes have no idea what to do after their career ends. The Fund can become a bridge to pursue a sports career or to get an education and another job,” Mazepin said.
