“I hope 0.13 world record loss won’t make me dream at night” – Chikunova

Medalist at the short course world championships Evgenia Chikunova admitted that she was initially upset because of the missed chance for a world record, but she hopes to break it at the Salnikov Cup.

Chikunova at the Russian Championships in Kazan showed the second result in history in short water at a distance of 200 meters breaststroke. She was separated from the world record by 0.13 seconds.

– A little disappointment, it didn’t work, but the seconds are very fast. I swam the second fastest in history, the best result of a season in the world. I will do everything at the Salnikov Cup to set a record,” Chikunova told reporters.

– Where did you waste time on the race?

– If you compare my layout and Rebecca Sony’s folder, which I looked at, calculated. I lost 0.11 at 150 yards, another 0.02 at the last fifty bucks. Somewhere I stretched, but I did everything right – I didn’t want to crash into the wall. I would be in shock, I would barely turn around, I don’t know what else would have happened. There is something to work on.

– Masha Kameneva said that she was motivated, among other things, by the match competition with you in the overall FINA points ranking. And you?

– I’m a bit overwhelmed with the thought that I also have to swim for insane results. There were a lot of records, Masha broke a lot of records, and you have to beat someone I compete with in more than one style.

— Have you thought about FINA points bonuses?

No, I just wanted to swim fast.
