The International Swimming Federation (FINA), in response to a request from , has announced that it is ready to recognize the world record of a Russian Kliment Kolesnikov for general reasons.
On Wednesday, Kolesnikov set a world record in the 50m backstroke at the Russian Short Course Championships as part of the second stage of the Friendship Games in Kazan. The two-time Olympic medalist clocked 22.11 seconds. The Russian surpassed the feat of Frenchman Florent Manaud, who in 2014 swam the distance in a 25-meter pool in 22.22 seconds.
– Kolesnikov’s Swimming Review will follow the FINA World Record Approval process, like any other World Records. The world record can only be ratified once the necessary steps have been taken and verified, FINA said in a statement.
