Thomas Bach supported the extension of the disqualification of athletes from aggressor countries.

Thomas Bach supported the extension of the disqualification of Russian and Belarusian athletes. At the same time, the president of the International Olympic Committee called on all sports in the world to unite in approving sanctions against athletes from aggressor countries.

This was announced at the Global Association of International Sports Federations forum. At the same time, Bach himself was unable to attend the event due to the coronavirus, but his speech was read by IOC Vice President Ng Sir Miang.

“Sanctions against the Russian and Belarusian governments must and will remain unwavering.

The recommendations that you, the International Federations, should not recognize sports competitions in Russia and Belarus and that none of the national symbols of these countries should be displayed at any sports events should remain in force.

Therefore, we must impose sanctions against those responsible for starting the war, the Russian and Belarusian governments.

You all know how difficult it is to close this circle with the protective measures we have to take.

That is why we must continue to explore ways to overcome our problem through these protective measures for athletes.

We can do this in a sustainable way if we ourselves, the Olympic Movement, remain united.

We can only do this if you, the International Federations, comply with our recommended sanctions and protective measures,” the IOC chief reported to Inside the Games.

Recall that Thomas Bach first came to Ukraine, where the IOC President was shown the results of the Russian invasion.
