The President of the IOC said that these countries are responsible for unleashing a war in Ukraine
President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach supported the extension of international sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes.
Note that due to the coronavirus, Bach was unable to attend the forum of the Global Association of International Sports Federations and his speech was read by IOC Vice President Ng Sir Miang.
“Sanctions against the governments of Russia and Belarus must and will remain in place.”
“The recommendation that you, the International Federations, not recognize sports competitions in Russia and Belarus, and that no national symbols of these countries be displayed at any competitions, should remain in force.”
“Because we have to impose sanctions on those who are responsible for starting the war, and these are the Russian and Belarusian governments.”
Earlier, the IOC upheld sanctions against Russian athletes. At international competitions there should be no Russian flags, colors and symbols, international federations should not hold competitions in Russia.
In February, the IOC recommended that international federations remove the Russians from the competition due to Russia’s full-scale military aggression against Ukraine.
The war between Russia and Ukraine continues for the 279th day.
