Swiss lawyers refused to represent Kamila Valieva at CAS hearings

According to , the Swiss law firm Schellenberg Wittmer SA, which represented Kamil Valiev in a hearing before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in February this year at the Beijing Winter Olympics, she refused to cooperate with the Russian figure skater. Thus, during the announced CAS procedure, the Russian woman will most likely be represented by Russian lawyers.

In addition to participating in the hearings in the Valieva case in Beijing, after which the Russian woman was allowed to participate in the individual singles tournament, this company previously represented RUSADA in the case against WADA, as well as in the appeal against the decision of the IOC on the life ban of a number of Russian athletes from participation in the Olympic Games.

We had several arguments. Among other things, we presented the panel with arguments that Camila is a protected athlete. They also discussed how the notification of the results analyzed by the Stockholm laboratory took place. We had a number of arguments about proportionality, fairness, due process. We are really satisfied that the CAS has properly considered our arguments and that the appropriate decision has been made, which is the right one, Anna Kozmenko, partner at law firm Schellenberg Wittmer, told .

According to , with a high probability, Russian lawyers will now be offered to handle Valieva’s case. On behalf of WADA, Valieva’s case at the next hearings will be handled by the Swiss company Kellerhals Carrard.

The Swiss company Schellenberg Wittmer Ltd did not respond to ‘s request.
