Lucescu: Now there will be a big pause, during which it is necessary to discuss all the points

The people of Kiev ended the year with the defeat of Metalist

Dynamo Kyiv coach Mircea Lucescu summed up the confrontation with Metalist (3:0) in the postponed match of the 8th round of the UPL. The Romanian coach believes that his wards could have scored at least six goals against Kharkiv team.

“Individual skill comes first in such situations. The player performing the set-piece must hang the ball along a certain trajectory or play, creating a numerical advantage, deliver the ball into the penalty area. Players who come into the box must act aggressively, close this pass, confidently go to this ball. All this has been discussed. Not just before this match, but before every one.”

“I am also concerned about the attacks we carry out. We bring many balls to someone else’s penalty area, we play well, but the last pass, the last hit, the last decision that the player makes, is most often wrong. Because all this is stopped and blocked. In today’s match, everything was better, because we scored three goals, but we could have six or seven. These moments arise, but then either the wrong decision-making or the lack of concentration hinders further. What worries me is that we do not realize these moments.

“We need to analyze everything that has been done so far, everything that needs to be worked on in the future. Now there will be a long pause, during which it is necessary to discuss all the points related not only to this position. There are many things we need to discuss. I look forward to fruitful work during this period.”

“I would like Nikolai Shaparenko to recover as soon as possible after a serious injury. His absence is felt, the team needs him. Of course, we also monitor players who are loaned by other teams, so that at any time we can return a player who can benefit us. It’s a rewarding experience for young players when they move to other teams and have more playing time. This way you can see the development of the players better.”

Dynamo went into the winter break in third place. Kyivians with 30 points are three points ahead of Zorya, which has one game less.

Lucescu’s wards will play their next match within the Ukrainian championship in the spring. As part of the 16th round, Dynamo will meet with Ingulets in a home match. The base day of the tour is March 4th.
