The Ministry of Sports of Russia sees positive prospects in the issue of restoring the rights of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF), the minister said Oleg Matytsin .
Earlier on Wednesday, World Athletics Association (World Athletics) chief Sebastian Coe said the organization’s task force recommends restoring national federation status in March 2023.
– The representatives of the World Athletics working group note the progress of ARAF’s activities to re-establish the organisation. Meanwhile, with the support of the Russian Ministry of Sports, an efficient working system for the federation has been established, and now it has been evaluated by World Athletics. Anti-doping activities are continuously improved. In the foreground is the culture of clean sport, supported by athletes, coaches, specialists and the management of the federation.
We see positive prospects in the issue of restoring the rights of ARAF and look forward to a constructive dialogue to consider the results of the implementation of the roadmap,” the department’s press service quoted Matytsin as saying. .
ARAF has been banned from World Athletics since 2015 due to a huge doping scandal. From then on, Russian athletes could participate in international competitions only after obtaining neutral status.
On March 1, 2022, World Athletics banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions.
