The Ukrainian intends to fight with all the mandatory contenders for the titles he owns
Alexander Krasyukpromoter of WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO heavyweight title holder Oleksandr Usyk (20-0, 13 KOs), said that the Ukrainian boxer does not intend to give up one of his belts in order to fight the WBC champion Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23 KOs).
“If anyone is thinking about the possibility that Usyk will vacate the title, then he is completely mistaken. Alexander will never give up the belt. Usyk will go after the title of absolute champion, no matter what it takes.”
“Fighting all the mandatory contenders is not Usyk’s favorite scenario, but since Oleksandr considers himself positively a stubborn, driven person, he won’t miss it. He will go ahead and rise to the challenge,” said the promoter.
It was previously reported that Fury does not want the IBF belt at stake in the battle with Usyk. The International Boxing Federation has named Croat Filip Hrgovic as the mandatory challenger for the title. Fury does not intend to pay the IBF fine for the fact that the defense of the belt does not take place.
Promoter Frank Warren has previously said that Usyk will be Fury’s next opponent after the Brit’s fight with Derek Chisora, which is scheduled for December 3. The same thesis was confirmed by Tyson himself, who announced his readiness to fight the Ukrainian after the fight with Derek.
In addition, the Gypsy King has announced three fights for 2023. Promoter Alexander Krasyuk said that the working date of the Usyk-Fury fight is February 18.
