The striker scored twice and became the best player of the match against Poland
National team forward France Kylian Mbappe stated that his goal was to win World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
“Of course, this World Cup is an obsession, this is my dream competition. I am lucky that I play it, I built my season for this competition physically and mentally. I wanted to be ready at the right moment. Everything is going well, but we are still far from the goal that both I and the team have set for themselves – to win.
“I know there were a lot of questions about why I didn’t speak at press conferences. Nothing personal against journalists. I just wanted to focus on the competition 100% and not waste energy on anything else… Recently I found out that the Federation is going to be fined. I’ll take the fine. The federation should not pay for my personal decision.”
France beat Poland in the 1/8 finals of the tournament (3:1). Olivier Giroud scored in the first half, while Mbappé scored twice in the second. Robert Lewandowski recovered one goal from the penalty spot in stoppage time. Kilian was eventually recognized as the best player of the match.
In total, Mbappe has five goals in the current World Cup 2022. The striker became the first French international to score more than four goals in multiple World Cups.
France advanced to the quarter-finals. Deschamps’ team will face England in the quarter-finals, defeating Senegal 3-0.
