Russian Diving Federation President Stanislav Druzhinin told that there is a general call for Russian water sports to participate in Asian tournaments, through the All-Russian Swimming Federation (VFTU).
All-Russian Swimming Federation President Vladimir Salnikov told on Monday that Russian water sports have a chance to move to the Asian federation, but the question is in what status. An appeal was also sent to the Asian confederation on the possibility of Russian participation in tournaments under its auspices.
– We would very much like to move to Asia, there is a possibility, no more for the moment – no decision has been taken yet, but we hope that the situation will change, the negotiations have been at the highest level, with the FINA President. The request was sent through our affiliated federation – the FSM, as only such a request will have legal weight at FINA, and the decision will also apply to the whole aquatic family. We have to compete. We have no dialogue with the LEN as such. Europe is closed to us.
– For diving, performance in Asia is generally at the top level.
– Yes. China is our most important rival. So such a decision from Asia will not only help us in terms of competitive practice, but in principle it is very interesting for our sport,” said Druzhinin.
