There is no need to rush to bring Russian legislation into line with the requirements of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code, said Sergey Kononykhin, vice-president of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR).
In December 2019, WADA recognized the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) as violating the World Anti-Doping Code, Russian athletes were suspended from participating in major international competitions under the country’s flag and with other symbols national for four years. RUSADA disagreed with this decision and appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which reduced the sentence to two years. The sanctions are due to end on December 16.
– If we accept the changes now, I’m not sure WADA won’t find the opportunity to issue a new anomaly. Perhaps it is not necessary to run in front of the locomotive, – said Kononykhin following the results of the trick in the State Duma.
Previously, it had been decided to form a group of legal experts who would give a legal assessment of WADA’s requirements as to the need to amend the legislation to bring it into line with the global code.
