“He suffers abroad that they can’t see top skaters, and we can’t” – Gerboldt on the Russian Grand Prix

Bronze medalist of the Russian Figure Skating Championship Catherine Gerboldt spoke about the holding of the Russian Grand Prix series and noted that on the international stage they suffer from the lack of competition and top athletes.

After the withdrawal of Russian athletes from international competitions, the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) announced the creation of the Russian Grand Prix series, which included six stages (two in Moscow, one in Sochi, Kazan, Samara and Perm ). The series finale will take place in March 2023 in Sochi.

– The Russian Grand Prix series recently ended. Do you think it was successful? Have you managed to make a worthy replacement for the international stages of the Grand Prix?

– In principle, I have long said that by depriving our athletes of the opportunity to perform on the world stage, the world stage is likely to suffer more than our athletes, since we currently have some of the strongest skaters. So it suffers abroad because they can’t see such competition and such top athletes, but not us, “Championship” quotes Gerboldt.

The Russians have been suspended from participating in competitions under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) amid the situation in Ukraine until further notice.
