Minister of Sports of Russia Oleg Matytsin believes that the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) should peacefully resolve the issue with the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VVF) regarding the payment of compensation for the postponement of the 2022 World Championship.
On Friday, the XX WFV Reports Conference was held in Moscow. The Men’s World Team Championship was scheduled to take place in 10 cities across Russia from August 26 to September 11. However, the FIVB deprived Russia of the right to host the competition due to the situation in Ukraine and moved the tournament to Poland and Slovenia.
– I am very happy that the legacy of the World Cup lives on, even if such an incident happened. The efforts of the federation, the committees, the regions have not been in vain and the team of professional managers who worked on the preparation of this World Cup continue to work in this difficult period, contacts with Iran, Belarus and other countries on the issue of cooperation. The professional facilities created in preparation for the World Cup will work for the benefit of student, international and Russian volleyball, Matytsin told reporters.
– The compensation of the international federation can only be obtained by legal means?
– As far as I know, the VFV is in contact with the FIVB, trying to solve the problem of the return of funds without trial. I hope these issues will be resolved peacefully. Colossal investments have been made, and the same colossal damage has been caused to us by the cancellation of the World Cup. Russian volleyball has made a huge contribution to the development of world volleyball, and the international federation must understand that it is impossible to come into conflict with such a partner. This will lead to big losses, including for the FIVB.
