The American was knocked down, but still won
Former undisputed American lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez defeated the Spaniard Sandora Martina and won the WBO International Welterweight title. The fight also had the status of a WBC eliminator.
The fight took place in New York at Madison Square Garden. The fighters at the beginning of the fight constantly went to exchange blows, and Lopez was even knocked down in the second round.
In the future, Teofimo was more active and delivered more accurate shots, which eventually allowed him to win by a split decision of the judges – 96-93, 97-92, 94-95.
Let’s remind, Martin replaced Jose Pedraza from Puerto Rico as a rival of Lopez. Pedraza withdrew from the fight due to illness.
