The Spaniard is unhappy with the decision of the two referees who gave the advantage to Lopez
Spanish light welterweight boxer Sandor Martin (40-3, 13 KOs) believes he deserved to win against former undisputed lightweight champion American Teofimo Lopez (18-1, 13 KOs).
“It was a surprise from the judges. I clearly won this fight. For one judge, I only won two rounds? Really? There were two knockdowns. The referee did not count one of the knockdowns. [Лопес] missed all his punches. This is a boxing class. This is a robbery. But such is the sport of boxing.”
“In the ring, I controlled everything. Everything was under the control of my will. Teofimo was too excited. In the eighth round, his corner told him, “Hey, you can lose this fight.”
“I only had three weeks to prepare. The broken nose was from an accidental blow to the head. But I didn’t worry about it. I knew it would hurt every time he hit me there. But he couldn’t hit. How many times did he touch me, three, four times? Really? Will you win with this?”
Lopez defeated Martin to win the WBO international light welterweight title. The fight also had the status of a WBC eliminator.
The American was knocked down in the second round. In the future, Teofimo was more active and delivered more accurate shots, which ultimately allowed him to win by a split decision.
After the fight, Teofimo said he was ready to fight Josh Taylor, Regis Prograis, or have a rematch with George Kambosos.
