The plane carrying Rudisha from Kimana Game Reserve in Kajiado County crashed in southeastern Kenya on Saturday. There were also five people on board.
The head of the Kenyan branch of the World Association of Athletics for athletes over 35, Steven Ole Marai, suffered a broken rib, he was taken to hospital.
According to Rudisha, the accident happened a few minutes after the start of the flight, the plane’s engine failed. The pilot attempted to land the ship, but in the process of gliding, his wing hit a tree. After that, the plane spun around and it crashed into rocky terrain.
“He did an incredible job of landing the plane as smoothly as possible,” the 33-year-old shared with emotion.
Rudisha won gold medals at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics in the 800 meters. Moreover, he won the world championship twice in 2011 and 2015.
